COVID-19 roundup: no new cases reported in Grey-Bruce ahead of long weekend

There were no new lab-test confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Grey-Bruce Friday, according to the health unit’s daily situation report.

The region’s total number of cases remains at 91 with 75 cases now recovered. Twenty-three cases have been reported in health-care workers throughout the region.

Two long-term health care facilities remain in an outbreak. Dr. Ian Arra, Grey-Bruce’s medical officer of health, is awaiting further testing which may confirm the tests that sparked the outbreaks were false positives. The homes are Parkview Manor in Chesley and Golden Dawn in Lion’s Head.

All staff and residents at the 19 long-term care homes in the region have now been tested for COVID-19, as per the provincial mandate.

Healthcare organizations in Grey-Bruce worked “shoulder-to-shoulder” to support the long-term care homes in the response to COVID-19, a joint media release from the health unit and Grey-Bruce hospital groups said Friday.

Over 2,700 tests of residents and staff at long-term care homes were tested between April 14 and May 14.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit coordinated the swabbing with the long-term care homes along with the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Grey Bruce Health Services and area hospitals and emergency services.

Regional healthcare leaders and physicians continue to meet with long-term care home leaders to identify challenges and help fill gaps, the release said.
