Sixteen-year-old charged with impaired driving near Allenford Road

A 16-year-old from Allenford was charged with driving while impaired and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol concentration over 80 after being stopped at a RIDE checkpoint near Allenford Road in South Bruce Peninsula Saturday.

Grey Bruce OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint on Fieldside Road in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula when they stopped the driver headed northbound. Police said the driver showed signs of impairment and failed a roadside screening device test.

The results of the driver’s breath test were over the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

The accused had their G1 (novice) driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating was towed and will be impounded for seven days.

The accused was released on a Youth Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound in September.
