Rear-end collision at high speed ends in charges

Police charged a 29-year-old Port Elgin woman with dangerous driving and refusing to provide a breath sample after a rear-end collision in Port Elgin at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Her northbound car travelling at a high rate of speed rear-ended another northbound vehicle on Goderich Street, at Tomlinson Drive, a Saugeen Shores Police Service news release said.

“The force of the collision forced the vehicle that was struck to spin out of control into on-coming traffic in the southbound lanes,” the release said.

The speeding vehicle continued on, though heavily damaged, for almost 200 metres away from the collision scene. The “jaws of life” was used to extract her from the vehicle. She was taken to hospital with minor injuries and refused to provide a breath sample, police said.

She was released and given a court date and she received a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension.

The condition of the other driver was not provided.
