Man arrested north of Durham after cops told of gun, drugs in car


A London man was arrested just north of Durham after police received a report of someone operating a stolen vehicle while in possession of a loaded firearm.

At about 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, West Grey Police Service was advised of a lone male operating a stolen vehicle with a loaded firearm and drugs inside and that the vehicle was northbound from Mount Forest. The man was arrested just north of Durham, West Grey police said in a news release.

Police seized marijuana, ammunition, a canister of pepper/mace spray, a firearm and a stolen vehicle, the release said.

The 22-year-old man was charged with numerous offences, including possession of a stolen vehicle, four counts of breach of probation, failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking, possession for the purpose of distributing, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, using an imitation firearm while committing an offence, possession of an imitation weapon for dangerous purposes and theft under $5,000.

The accused was scheduled to make a court appearance on Wednesday.
