Five people were charged with stunt driving on Highway 6 in South Bruce Peninsula over the weekend.
All five of the drivers, who were travelling at 50 kilometres per hour or more over the posted speed limit, were issued a provincial summons to attend court, received a seven-day licence suspension and had their vehicles towed and impounded for seven days.
Those charged included a 63-year-old South Bruce Peninsula man who was caught going over 135 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on a motorcycle, a 19-year-old from Brampton who was stopped after travelling over 140 km/h in an 80 km/h zone in a car, a 52-year-old from Stratford who was going over 135 km/h in an 80 km/h zone in an SUV, a 19-year-old from Arran-Elderslie who was travelling over 140 km/h in an 80 km/h zone in a truck pulling a commercial trailer and a 21-year-old from Scarborough travelling over 145 km/h in an 80 km/h zone in a car.
Police remind motorists that excessive speed is one of the leading causes of death on the province’s highways.
